Architectural and Interior Photographer Based in Osaka

From Travel Photography to the Built Environment

Hotaka Matsumura began photographing as a young traveler, documenting landscapes and moments he encountered along the way. He is now based in Osaka and works across Japan, focusing on architecture, interiors and exhibition spaces.

Architecture, Interiors and Collaborations

His documented architectural work includes Kansai International Airport for Populous, the Belgian Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka for Delta Light, the German Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka and a historic residence in Ikoma. He has also worked with Supia-Asia, WDR, Goodfit, YAP Global, National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies, Infopro Digital Group, Backgammon Baby, Booking.com, Expedia and YUNA YANG COLLECTION.

Planning the Photography

Before a shoot, Hotaka confirms the priority views, site contact, access window and delivery requirements, then builds the shot plan around the conditions confirmed by the client or site representative. On site, architectural and interior stills are normally made from a tripod with bracketed exposures so that window detail, interior depth, material colour and lighting remain legible across a consistent set.

Collaboration and Perspective

Hotaka values clear communication with clients and collaboration with the people responsible for each project. Away from commissioned work, he spends time in mountainous areas, enjoys outdoor activities and gardening, and observes seasonal changes in plants and landscapes.
